Session 6: External Trip Southbank
This lesson was also an outdoor photo shoot. For the South Bank shoot, as in previous classes, I prepared in advance with styling ideas. The style of this preliminary preparation was based on the experience of previous visits and the images shared in advance. I was conscious of the casual style in this styling. A vintage leather jacket and a knitted hat with ears were key styling points.

We started shooting from the Royal Festival Hall and headed for our final step, the Tate Modern. This time the location differed from previous locales (e.g. in school and Shepherd Bush Market), this location allowed for a larger scale, landscape format and various angles. There are also various structures here, which could be considered for shooting with them.

These were taken from the floor on top of the staircase, with the model at the bottom of the staircase. We were able to capture angles and layouts that would have been difficult to capture indoors. We were also able to shoot from a distance, which allowed them to take photos with movement, such as models running or climbing stairs.

These photos were taken using the unique bench that was originally there. Red lace stocking were used in Gloria’s style on this day, so they matched the color of the bench. Furthermore, the bench had a distinctive shape, so it was possible to take photographs by making the body conform to the shape of the bench.

This photograph was taken on the riverbank. Here I was able to go under the pier, so I took advantage of its architecture. This natural environment was very interesting as it cannot be expressed in a studio shoot. Here I focused on shooting into the landscape.
Through this session, I was able to explore more layouts and gain more experience in shooting. In addition, although shooting with natural light was a little more difficult, but I also learnt the importance of being creative with each location.
