Session 5: External session Local

This session focused on photography in locations around the school, including the Shepherd’s Bush Market. In advance we had to come up with the styling for this session. This time I have created a style that is entirely in black. (Black leather jacket, white shirt, black tie, black fur bucket hat) I had a slightly local and exotic image of the area, so I aimed for a visual that was stylish and unbalanced with the location.
As a group, we actually went to the site and chose our shooting location on the spot. There were many unique shops and objects and we were able to considered different patterns of layout. In particular, many of the buildings were colorful, especially in primary colors with clear color contrasts. The members of my group were also styled with a lot of black, so the work was a good balance of contrasts with the buildings.
After the shooting, I edited some photos.

These are outcomes in this session. The top two were edited using Photoshop because I wanted to express a slightly otherworldly feel. I wanted to create an even stranger atmosphere by editing the photograph in a broken way. The third was to increase the intensity value of the photograph, which gave the photograph movement. This allowed for an analogue-like instability to be expressed. Fourth, I wanted to give it a story, so I cropped the photos like a film. The using of photos from the same angle of view and completely different photos further enhances the narrative. Through this lesson, I felt that it was important to prepare the styling in advance and to be able to handle the situation on site for first time.
